KANSAS CITY, MO. — Tight end Tony Gonzalez is staying in Kansas City.
Chiefs coach Herm Edwards says Gonzalez was not traded before Tuesday’s deadline.
The 32-year-old Gonzalez had asked Kansas City to explore trade talks because he wants an opportunity to make a Super Bowl run before the end of his career.
The nine-time Pro Bowler holds tight end records for receptions, touchdowns and yards receiving.
Cowboys trade for WR Roy Williams
IRVING, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys have acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions.
The Cowboys on Tuesday traded a first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in ’09.
Williams’ best season was 2006, when he went to the Pro Bowl after catching 82 passes for 1,310 yards and seven touchdowns. He has 17 catches for 232 yards and a score this season for the winless Lions.
The fifth-year receiver was drafted in the first round by Detroit out of the University of Texas. He has 262 career catches for 3,884 yards with 29 touchdowns.
Lions place Kitna on injured reserve list
DETROIT — Jon Kitna’s season is over for the winless Detroit Lions.
The Lions (0-5) placed the starting quarterback on the season-ending injured reserve list on Tuesday.
There had been speculation the Lions might trade Kitna and rely instead on backups Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton. But a trade didn’t happen.
Kitna suffered a back injury in a loss to Chicago two weeks ago.
He did not play last week against Minnesota.
Orlovsky played in Kitna’s place against the Vikings. He is expected to make his second career start at Houston on Sunday.
