THORNTON — Two men were arrested Saturday after they allegedly assaulted a Thornton police officer checking out an area that has been the target of vandalism and graffiti.

The officer approached a group of people at the Hunters Glen Marina, in the 900 block of East 130th Avenue, about 5 a.m. The officer took one person into custody for trespassing and was walking the cuffed prisoner to his vehicle when he was attacked from behind. He was knocked to the ground and repeatedly assaulted and kicked by two people, police said.

An extensive search for the suspects led officers to an apartment at the Pinnacle at Hunters Glen complex. Todd Ian Valdez, 24, and Kevin James Romero, 20, were taken into custody.

The unidentified officer was taken to North Suburban Medical Center and treated and released with minor cuts and abrasions. Annette Espinoza, The Denver Post
