BOULDER COUNTY — The body of a man recovered Saturday after a hiker spotted him between the second and third Flatirons has been identified as Edward J. Thompson, 47, of Aurora.

It took members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group several hours to complete the recovery, and the body was brought down about 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

Thompson was identified by the Boulder County coroner in a news release Sunday.

Sheriff’s emergency services coordinator Sue Cullen said Saturday that Thompson was not equipped with climbing gear or safety equipment.

The coroner said foul play is not suspected, although a cause of death will not be available until after an autopsy.

This article has been corrected in this online archive. Originally, due to a reporting error, it misidentified hiker Edward J. Thompson.
