Getting your player ready...

While Red Bull claims to give you wings for 364 days of the year, Saturday the ubiquitous European energy drink is changing the game by offering up wheels.

Trading Post Road at the Red Rocks Amphitheater will set the stage for Denver’s inaugural Red Bull Soapbox Race at noon, where about 40 nonmotorized driving teams will drop in with their self-designed dream machines. It’s a display of speed, creativity and showmanship.

Participants will compete for prizes ranging from a NASCAR experience at Texas Motor Speedway to an ice-driving clinic in Steamboat Springs, but spectators will be the real winners. They get to take in the creative designs (and likely carnage) of competitors racing down the mountainside in four-wheeled fantasy rides resembling everything from a baby carriage to a tenacious taco. Best of all, it’s free.

Check it out: at Red Rocks Park near Morrison. Gates open at 10 a.m. Visit for info.
