A woman was jaywalking across East Hampden Avenue over the weekend when a car slammed into her and threw her several feet to her death, authorities say.
The pedestrian had stepped from the median and was crossing about 50 feet from the intersection of Hampden and South Forrest Street at 6:45 p.m. Sunday when she was hit by the car, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Swedish Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, Jackson said.
Jackson said it does not appear that the driver, whose name has not been released, violated any traffic laws.
