The Colorado Division of Wildlife has begun its annual search for nominations for its landowner of the year award, granted to a private landowner who has made outstanding contributions to wildlife habitat and to public hunting or fishing access.

Recipients must be a resident of Colorado, own at least 160 acres and be actively engaged in farming or ranching. Nominations must be received by Nov. 17. Send to Ken Morgan, Division of Wildlife, 6060 Broadway, Denver 80216 or ken.morgan@state.co.us.

Cooper scores.

Former Broncos offensive lineman Mark Cooper won the bonefish division of the ESPN Saltwater Series tournament at Key West, Fla., last weekend. Cooper battled winds up to 20 mph to land a single fish in the Mercury Redbone event, which will be part of a six-part TV series beginning April 2009.

“Nobody else was stupid enough to throw a fly in that wind,” the Denver resident said.
