LITTLETON — A brazen daylight crime spree jangled nerves and sparked a massive police search in the southwest metro region Sunday afternoon.
An armed robber was on the loose in a black Jaguar stolen from the Bow Mar neighborhood, taken from a couple at their home at gunpoint about 1:30 p.m. He was still at large Sunday night.
The man, described as white and in his mid-30s with curly blond hair, earlier had broken into at least four homes in the Coventry residential area near South Sheridan Boulevard and West Bowles Avenue in Littleton, said Lt. Mike Broadhead.
At the fourth home, the burglar encountered the homeowner inside, Broadhead said.
The robber pulled a pistol and demanded the keys to the homeowner’s Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle.
The SUV’s OnStar navigation system led police to the Bow Mar neighborhood, where the Escalade had been ditched.
“There’s evidence he spent some time running around this neighborhood,” Broadhead said. He dropped his ball cap and coat in the area, as well as a checkbook from the Escalade, in an unoccupied car he attempted to steal.
He entered a couple’s kitchen through a garage door, demanded the keys to their Jaguar sedan and got away. The 1999 Jaguar’s Colorado license plate number is 582OIR.
Broadhead said the man appeared to be drunk, high or deranged.
“We know he’s armed and desperate, so he should be considered dangerous,” he said. “If anyone sees this man they should contact local law enforcement.”
