Behind freshman Emily Childs’ sixth-place finish, the University of Colorado women’s golf team won the season-ending Texas State Challenge at Wolfdancer Golf Club near Austin, Texas, on Monday.

Childs carded a three-round, 11-over-par 227 on the 6,141-yard course. Texas Tech’s Megan Dowdy and Iowa State’s Victoria Stefansen tied for medalist honors at 5-over 221. Colorado’s team score of 928 was one stroke better than second-place Texas Tech and Texas State. It was the Buffaloes’ fourth tournament victory in their 14-year history.

CU’s Wenino Big 12’s top defender.

Colorado senior Michelle Wenino was tabbed the Big 12 Conference soccer co-defensive player of the year in a vote of the league’s coaches. Wenino joined teammate and forward Nikki Marshall on the All-Big 12 first team.

Named to the All-Big 12 second team were Colorado defender Alex Cousins, midfielder Nikki Keller and forward Gianna DeSaverio, along with Texas A&M defender Bri Young, a graduate of Parker’s Chaparral High School.
