Face it, if you consider yourself a Colorado skier or snowboarder, you’re going to go skiing or snowboarding no matter how funky the economic climate may be this winter. It’s in your blood, your soul.
And that’s the reason the state’s core skiing community will find itself gathering en masse once again at the 17th annual Colorado Ski & Snowboard Expo, Friday through Sunday at the Colorado Convention Center (700 14th St.). Because, quite simply, it’s who we are.
Nothing shouts “Ski Season” like the three-day festival. Known for hosting the single largest ski and snowboard sale in Colorado’s biggest temporary ski shop — more than 20,000 square feet — it’s not only the place to track down deals on gear and lift tickets, it’s a giant winter sports pep rally.
Every resort in the state (and beyond) will be on hand to show off a collective $100 million in capital improvements and a last-chance opportunity to score lift ticket bargains. Icons such as Glen Plake and Olympic gold medalist Tommy Moe will sign autographs.
If you aren’t in the market for new equipment this season, odds are you have some old gear to get rid of. Colorado Ski & Golf is once again offering the opportunity to ditch your unwanted skis, snowboards, boots, poles and bindings through a recycling program designed to keep them out of the landfill. And as always, the retail giant is offering ample opportunity to replace them.
Doors open at noon Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $12 at the door, cash only, $9 in advance. Children under 12 get in free.
The stoke will last all season.
