AURORA, Colo.—Authorities say six people are recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning after a car was left running overnight in a garage attached to a suburban Denver home.

Arapahoe County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Curti (KUR’-tee) said Tuesday the poisoning is believed to be unintentional.

He says the car may have been left running by a family member who intended to return to the garage but became distracted and forgot.

Five of the victims were from one family and one, a child, lost consciousness but has revived. The sixth was a neighbor who had gone to check on them Tuesday morning and found they were sick.

The victims were taken to two hospitals.
