SALT LAKE CITY — Two teenagers charged in the shooting death of a 7-year-old should not be held alongside adults in the county jail as they await adjudication, their attorneys said.

At a 3rd District Court hearing Monday, attorneys McCaye Christianson and Clayton Simms argued the teens should be moved from the Salt Lake County Jail or afforded special circumstances because of their ages.

Gabriel Alejandro Alvarez, 17, and Mae Goodman Johnson, 16, both face murder charges in the July 6 drive- by shooting death of Maria Del Carmen Menchaca outside her Glendale home.
