DENVER—Several reports of fireworks and gunfire were reported across Denver in apparent celebration shortly after Barack Obama was projected the presidential winner at 11 p.m. EST.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the reports were not confined to one part of the city.
Gunshots and fireworks erupt in the street in Denver during the Fourth of July and on New Year’s Day. On Jan. 1, a single bullet fired from a high-powered rifle killed an 11-year-old girl and a woman sitting inside their home during a New Year’s Eve party.
Firing a gun within city limits is illegal.
