DENVER — Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn has won a second term in Congress, overcoming GOP infighting in a bitter primary battle to cruise to re-election in the general campaign.

Lamborn was leading outmatched Democrat Hal Bidlack 59 percent to 38 percent, with 93 percent of the projected vote counted. The conservative district includes Colorado Springs and has been in GOP hands since it was created in 1972.

Despite the Republican advantage in the district, Lamborn’s road to re-election was not easy. He had a vigorous primary challenge from Jeff Crank and had to petition himself onto ballots after a GOP convention snub.
