(16) Roosevelt (6-4) at (1) Glenwood Springs (10-0), Saturday, 2 p.m. The host Demons are more than aware of last year’s playoff debacle. After running the table in the regular season, Glenwood Springs bowed out in the first round to Sterling. . . . It has been 18 years since Glenwood has won a playoff game. Roosevelt enters the game on a three-game losing streak.
(9) Berthoud (8-2) at (8) Centaurus (8-2), Friday, 7 p.m. You might think being the defending champions would get you better than a No. 9 seed or at least a home playoff game. But no, and the Spartans won’t complain about it. . . . Jordan Major is the unquestioned Berthoud leader and will be the focus of a Centaurus defense that has been stingy all season. . . . The Warriors’ 27 points surrendered last week to Conifer were a season high.
(13) Steamboat Springs (8-2) at (4) Pueblo County (7-3), Saturday, Hornets Nest, 1 p.m. The Hornets are indeed buzzing. After a slow 2-3 start, Pueblo County has turned on the afterburners and will catch a Sailors team that might still be recovering mentally from the 47-0 loss to top- seeded Glenwood. . . . If Steamboat is to steal one in the Steel City, quarterback Austin Hinder will have to bring his “A” game.
(12) Pueblo East (7-3) at (5) Mountain View (9-1), Saturday, Ray Patterson Field, 1 p.m. Both the East Eagles and the Mountain Lions dropped down from 4A and have enjoyed instant success. . . . The visiting Eagles, with multithreat quarterback Jordan Ward, were a combined 2-38 over the last four seasons — but rest assured they won’t be playing like they are just happy to be there. . . . Mountain View’s run through the rough-and-tumble Tri-Valley League should have it ready for playoff football.
(14) Windsor (6-4) at (3) Conifer (8-2), Friday, Trailblazer Stadium, 6 p.m. It has been quite a year in Windsor. The Wizards, just two season removed from a 1-9 season, have given the town hit by a tornado May 22 to cheer about. . . . Conifer will look to running back Willie Hayes (163 yards against Centaurus last week) to carry the load.
(11) D’Evelyn (9-1) at (6) Palisade (9-1), Saturday, Stocker Stadium, 1 p.m. Palisade’s Bulldogs hope the second verse is the same as the first. A rematch of last year’s first-round tilt went the way of Palisade, 42-31. . . . Expect more high scoring from the potent D’Evelyn Jaguars passing game and the formidable Bulldogs ground attack.
(10) Summit (9-1) at (7) Cañon City (9-1), Saturday, Citizens Field, 1 p.m. Damon McCain may be the bast back in the state you’ve never heard of. The Cañon City senior has rushed for nearly 2,500 yards and 22 touchdowns and will be the focus of a Summit defense that will need to play its best game to advance.
(15) Elizabeth (7-3) at (2) Fort Morgan (10-0), Saturday, 1 p.m. It was one year ago that Elizabeth’s Cardinals had visions of a deep playoff run, only to be upended at home in the first round by eventual champion Berthoud. . . . Fort Morgan has won 19 straight regular-season games and is looking to move even further than last year’s quarterfinal showing.
