INJURY FORCES BURNS HOME
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Wild defenseman Brent Burns is returning home early from the team’s road trip because of an unspecified upper-body injury that has kept him out of action for the past week.
Burns was hurt in pregame warmups Saturday at Phoenix and didn’t dress for Thursday night’s 3-1 victory over the Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.
The team sent him back for rest and treatment ahead of the next home game, against the Coyotes in a week. Burns, considered the Wild’s best blue-liner, has three goals and one assist in nine games.
Brodeur has surgery
NEWARK, N.J. — Devils goal-tender Martin Brodeur had surgery to repair his torn left biceps near the elbow.
“According to the doctors, his surgery was 100 percent successful,” Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said. “The timetable for his return remains three to four months.”
Brodeur is eight victories shy of breaking Patrick Roy’s NHL record of 551.
Footnotes.
Blues left wing Paul Kariya was scratched from the lineup against San Jose because of an undisclosed lower-body injury.
• Defenseman Mathieu Schneider missed Atlanta’s game against the Islanders and isn’t expected to join the team on a two-game road trip to Buffalo and Carolina because of a hip flexor injury.
