BROOMFIELD, Colo.—A tough economy could help Colorado fifth- and sixth-graders this year.

Traditionally, Vail Resorts Inc. has offered Colorado fifth-graders three free days of skiing or snowboarding at each of its four Colorado resorts: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone.

Vail expanded the deal to include sixth-graders this year, and added an extra day at each resort.

All students have to do is sign up for the special pass. Sixth-graders who’ve already paid $99 for a pass will get refunds.

Heidi Kercher-Pratt of Vail Resorts corporate marketing says that in challenging economic times, the company needs to do whatever it can to help residents enjoy the state’s offerings.
