GOLDEN — A woman’s parachute failed to open Saturday afternoon while she was attempting to BASE jump in Clear Creek Canyon.

Search-and-rescue agencies were contacted about 4 p.m., and the accident closed both westbound and eastbound lanes of U.S. 6 into Clear Creek Canyon and Colorado 119, said Julie Brooks, a spokeswoman with the Golden Fire Department.

The woman had not been identified late Saturday but was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

“She has injuries to her lower extremities,” Brooks said.
