Unemployed New Jersey Nets fans have their own supporters: the Nets.
The team announced Wednesday they are providing 1,500 free tickets over the next two months to unemployed fans who submit resumes to the team. The Nets, who had received about 1,000 Wednesday night, plan to send the resumes to their 120 corporate sponsors and a couple of hundred firms that own season tickets.
“Our belief right now is, let’s invest in people who might invest in us later,” Nets chief executive Brett Yormark said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “In doing so, we can help people who need it most.”
Companies are not guaranteeing jobs, but the Nets hope that maybe a door or two will open.
“Our sponsors and season-ticket holders are always looking for good talent,” Yormark said.
