Although the men’s college basketball rules committee moved the 3-point line back a foot to 20 feet, 9 inches, the women did not follow suit. Consequently, there is a gender gaptwo 3-point lines now painted in every arena in America.
At Northern Colorado’s Butler-Hancock Hall, the men’s line is blue, the women’s white. Occasionally the women stop at the wrong line when they are hurriedly spotting up.
“With our motion offense, it’s nice to have players spread out anyway,” UNC women’s coach Jaime White said. “If they make it from the longer line, fine. If they don’t, I’ll say, ‘Step up to the right line.’ ”
White is confident that referees won’t have to adjust too much to the multiple lines.
