COPPER MOUNTAIN — World Cup overall and downhill champion Lindsey Vonn injured her knee when she fell during a routine training session for a super-G on Wednesday.
She was taken to U.S. women’s alpine ski team doctor William Sterett, who indicated Vonn suffered a bruised left knee. There was no ligament or cartilage damage.
A decision on Vonn’s return is pending further evaluation.
Yao sits with injury
HOUSTON — Rockets center Yao Ming sat out Houston’s game against the Dallas Mavericks with a sore left foot.
“It’s nothing bad,” Yao said. “I’m all right, actually.”
Yao is expected to play Friday night at Washington.

Wife of doping doctor threatens to talk
MADRID, Spain — The wife of the doctor at the center of Spain’s biggest doping investigation said Spanish sports would be ruined if she revealed what she knows about drug use among athletes.
Cristina Perez ran on Spain’s 1,600-meter relay team at the 1992 Olympics. She alluded to problems at the Barcelona Games but did not elaborate.
“I know what happened at Barcelona ’92 and I’m a Pandora’s box that, if opened one day, could bring down sport,” Perez said. “But out of respect for my companions, the people who sacrificed so much, I’m staying quiet. Although I could speak out and ruin all those caught up in this little world.”
Perez’s husband, Eufemianio Fuentes, was the doctor at the center of cycling’s Operation Puerto case.
Tar Heels lose 7-footer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina 7-foot freshman Tyler Zeller will likely miss the rest of the season because of a broken left wrist suffered in Tuesday night’s victory over Kentucky.
Zeller had surgery to repair fractures in two places, a recovery that normally would take 12 to 16 weeks.
• The NCAA denied forward Alex Stepheson‘s waiver petition for eligibility to compete at Southern California this season after transferring from North Carolina.
