The city of Denver had to spend $11,307.28 on overtime to pay police to staff an Oct. 27 rally at Civic Center for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
The rally attracted more than 100,000 people, who stretched from the City and County Building to the state Capitol.
The overtime costs come out of the city budget. The Obama campaign paid for security barriers, standard event fees and damage deposits, but taxpayers cover police overtime costs for the visits of presidential or vice presidential candidates of any party.
