CORTEZ, Colo.—A court hearing for a 20-year-old Montezuma County man charged with killing and dismembering his father has been postponed.
Jeremiah Berry has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to second-degree murder in the February death of his father.
He was slated for a status hearing in 22nd Judicial District Court this week. However, Keith Mandelski, chief deputy district attorney, says the hearing was postponed because more time was needed for Berry’s psychiatric evaluation.
The hearing has been rescheduled for Dec. 16 before District Judge Douglas S. Walker.
Berry is accused of shooting and stabbing his father, 42-year-old Jack Berry.
Parts of the father’s body were found encased in buckets of concrete. Court records say Berry also told authorities he fed some body parts to coyotes.
