BRIGHTON, Colo.—A 22-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a code-enforcement officer last week in the Denver suburb of Aurora has been charged with first-degree murder.
Harry Denard Williams of Denver also faces a mental evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial in the slaying of 40-year-old Rodney Morales.
Morales was shot once in the chest Nov. 13 while doing a routine inspection at an apartment building. He died shortly after being transported to a hospital.
Williams was arrested Friday after a massive search.
Adams County District Attorney spokeswoman Krista Flannigan says the first-degree murder charge was filed Thursday during an advisement hearing.
Adams County District Court Judge Vincent Phelps also set a Jan. 21 competency hearing.
Williams is being held without bail.
