Frontier Airlines and the Teamsters union might face off in bankruptcy court today over pay and benefits issues related to aircraft cabin cleaners.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is seeking a “me too” provision for the workers, known in the industry as aircraft appearance agents.
A hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. EST in New York.
The provision would guarantee that the roughly 125 workers are included in any pay raises granted to Frontier’s customer-service and ramp workers over the next four years, said Matthew Fazakas, president of Teamsters Local 961. The workers face pay cuts and should participate in any future pay restoration that the other group of workers receives, he said.
Frontier’s customer-service and ramp workers are not unionized.
Frontier declined to discuss the matter.
“Since we may be before the bankruptcy court on this matter, it is not appropriate to comment at this time,” said Frontier spokesman Steve Snyder.
The union also opposes health-benefit reductions Frontier is proposing for the cabin cleaners, Fazakas said.
