A teacher at the Brighton Collegiate High School has pleaded guilty in the third case involving allegations of sexual relations between students and teachers.

Ralph Kelly, 34, pleaded guilty today to attempted sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

The guilty plea came during a scheduled pretrial conference for a trial on a charge of sexual assault on a child.

Kelly, a German and social studies teacher who resigned from the school after he was charged, faces up to six years and must register as a sexual offender.

He will be sentenced in Adams County District Court on Jan. 30.

Kelly was the third teacher at Brighton Collegiate High School, formerly known as Brighton Charter School, to be face sexual charges involving a student and is one of four officials to become involved in scandals.

Carrie McCandless, 32, a former English teacher, was convicted in June 2007 and jailed for 45 days for having sexual contact with a student while chaperoning an overnight hiking trip.

David Mundy Jr., 32, a former substitute teacher, was sentenced in January 2007 for having sexual contact with underage girls. He is the son of the charter school’s former board leader.

David Mundy Sr., 54, former board leader, was convicted in June 2007,of failing to tell police about the McCandless incident. He resigned.
