ASPEN, Colo.—The Aspen Skiing Co. expects business to be down by 5 to 15 percent this season, but it doesn’t plan to reduce staff or close any ski runs as a result.
David Perry, senior vice president for the mountain division, says the company doesn’t want service to suffer despite the “unprecedented” economic downturn.
He says the resort plans to hire about 3,500 people, the same as last season, and will open as much of its terrain as snow allows.
Aspen Skiing Co. operates the Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass ski areas.
Vancouver, Columbia-based Intrawest Corp. said last week it would lay off an undisclosed number of people at its resorts, including three that it runs in Colorado.
