“We found your truck, but …”
The owner of a stolen Toyota truck might be getting a call like this from police today after the vehicle was spotted and then abandoned early this morning.
In the process, the truck “lost the entire right front wheel” and ‘then lost the rear wheel,” Commerce City police said in a new release.
The incident started when an officer spotted the stolen truck near East 66th and Monaco Street. The officer called for help.
The team first tried to stop the truck at a red light at East 64th Avenue and Holly Street. When the light turned green, the truck took off and hit the “stop sticks” in the road, flattening both right tires, the release said.
The truck kept going to Colorado Boulevard, traveling about 20 mph, until it lost the front wheel in the 5200 block and the rear wheel near Interstate 25 and Brighton Road.
But it kept going, police said, doing 20 mph into downtown.
Police stopped their slow-speed pursuit because morning traffic was getting thicker.
Denver Police found the truck about 30 minutes later in the 900 block of Ogden Street.
