Private services are planned for Russ Cook, who served as Jefferson County sheriff and Golden police chief.
Cook, 59, was found dead Friday morning in his south Jefferson County home. There was no evidence of foul play.
An autopsy was performed, with a cause of death pending test results, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Cook served 14 years with the Lakewood Police Department and was Golden police chief from 1988 until 2003, when he was elected sheriff. Cook served six months as sheriff before he resigned, saying he was entering a treatment program for alcoholism.
