“Ballast”: Lance Hammer’s beautifully shot tone poem captures the lives of three people bound by a suicide in a Mississippi town. Opens at the Starz FilmCenter.
“Four Christmases”: Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon star as a couple who, after years of dodging a bullet, must visit their parents’ homes for the holidays. Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Mary Steenburgen and Jon Voight also star. Opens at local theaters.
“Transporter 3”: Jason Statham’s return as the wry, kick-butt and fastidious Frank Martin. His passenger is the kidnapped daughter of a Ukrainian official. This sequel does a better job than the most recent James Bond outing of mixing interpersonal friskiness with action- driven pleasures. Opens at local theaters.
“Vivre Sa Vie”: Jean-Luc Godard’s early classic released in 1962 in the U.S. as “My Life to Live,” stars Anna Karina as a woman who drifts into prostitution. See it in a restored 35mm print. Opens at the Starz FilmCenter.
“We Are Wizards”: Harry Potter fans unite as rockers and other fantasy players in this Josh Koury documentary about a popular culture’s subculture. Opens at the Starz FilmCenter.
