Could Denver bid for the Winter Olympics in 2018?
Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter says if Chicago does not receive the 2016 Summer Games, Denver could be a viable candidate for the Winter Olympics two years later.
Ritter mentioned the Olympics idea this week after returning from a trade trip to Beijing, which hosted the Olympics this year.
Denver is famously the only city ever to turn down the Olympics.
Denver was awarded the 1976 Olympics by the IOC, only to have voters reject any investment because of environmental and financial concerns.
If Chicago is awarded the 2016 Olympics, the U.S. Olympic Committee will not bid again until the 2022 Olympic Games.
Denver bids for Bledisloe Cup.
An annual rugby clash between Australia and New Zealand could be making its first U.S. appearance in Denver.
City officials say they’re in talks host the 2009 Bledisloe Cup. The Metro Denver Sports Commission says it hopes to persuade Cup officials to hold next year’s match at Invesco Field.
It would be the first time the match would be played in the United States. Earlier this month, the All Blacks of New Zealand and the Wallabies of Australia met for the first time on neutral soil outside the World Cup, staging a match in Hong Kong. New Zealand won 19-14.
