If you don’t know the name Brett Green, you soon will. Green has been doing his thing in relative obscurity at Peyton for the last two seasons. If you believe the preseason hype, though, the Panthers have the depth and talent to compete for a Class 3A title.
“Realistically, the kids know they are in the conversation,” Brett’s father and Peyton coach Brian Green said. “They also know they have the potential to do something special.”
The Panthers went 18-6 last season and were upended in overtime by Yuma in the regional final.
Green, who averaged 20.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and hit 84 percent of his free throws, is joined in the backcourt by Chandler Bartlett. The brothers Spurling — Chris (6-feet-7) and Justin (6-6) — will man the paint for the Panthers.
Defending champion Faith Christian lost some key components but still has the talent to compete for a title. Coach Andrew Hasz, who is 188-46 in his 10 years, has the team to beat in the always competitive Metropolitan League.
