Respect must be earned in Class 3A girls basketball. Traditional powers can be found in the Metropolitan, Patriot Tri-Peaks and Intermountain leagues. The thought of “power” coming out of the Frontier League would make some coaches giggle.
“What do we have to do to get some respect?” The Pinnacle coach Steve Gutierrez asked. “Besides win a few games, we have to break through to the Big Eight.”
The T-wolves have a talented trio of Rose Akes, Kris Anderson and Jessica Santistevan. Gutierrez knows his league schedule is not the greatest, with challenges coming from Bennett and The Academy, but knows what has to be done.
“We have to come out and play at a high level every time out,” he said. “We can’t play down to the level of the competition.”
Defending champion Holy Family starts on top until someone proves they can beat it. Faith Christian and Bishop Machebeuf provide the Tigers with speed bumps in the Metropolitan.
