Home — as in home field advantage — was high on Brandon Marshall’s list Thursday both in the short term and the long term.
The leading receiver for the Broncos with 72 catches put his thoughts on Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs as well as looking ahead to a home playoff game if the Broncos can clinch a division title over the San Diego Chargers, who are three games back in the standings.
“You expect to have at least an advantage when you play at home,” Marshall said. “This year we’ve been struggling and have been a little bit up and down at home. Hopefully we can get the win at home this weekend. We control our own destiny. We’ve been playing better on the road this year, but in the playoffs, we’d love to be home in front of our fans.”
As for his own performance, Marshall thinks he’s peaking at the right time and is looking forward to a big December.
Marshall, noted that in the Broncos’ losses, there have been costly turnovers or the offense not getting the ball into the end zone. But he thinks he’s on target to surpass the seven touchdowns of last year. Marshall has four touchdowns in the 72 catches.
“Last year a lot of the offense went through me,” Marshall said. “This year we have Eddie Royal (63 catches), Tony Scheffler (28 catches) so you can’t be selfish. The ball is being thrown to everybody. I’m excited to have those guys around me. It makes my job a lot easier and our team better.
“I only had seven touchdowns last year, so it’s not that big of a drop off. I still have four games to go and if I get a touchdown a game that will be eight and it will be better than I did last year.”
