Mike Shanahan was asked Wednesday about his team’s less-than-stellar record at home.
Did I say less than stellar? OK, not very good. All right, lousy, if you really want to know.
The Broncos have lost three straight at Invesco Field to drop to 3-3 at home, the same home record as the 4-8 Chargers
Shanahan’s reaction?
“The season isn’t over yet,” he said. “Let’s see where we end up. We very well could end up 5-3. That’s not horrible. Obviously you’d like to be undefeated at home, but we can’t do anything more except concentrate on this game and try to take care of business.”
Translation: Shanahan fully expects to win the Broncos’ final two home games — Sunday vs. Kansas City and Dec. 21 vs. Buffalo. And more to the point, he has told the players he fully expects to win each of those games.
Losing three in a row at home is embarrassing enough. But getting blown out by the Raiders after losing back-to-back home games is another matter altogether.
The head coach has seen enough, been embarrassed enough. And the players have gotten the message loud and clear.
Be surprised if it doesn’t carry over to the field on Sunday, where the Broncos have waited more than two months to get a piece of the Chiefs.
