Getting your player ready...

The Colorado men’s basketball team received good news Thursday when an MRI determined freshman point guard Nate Tomlinson has a foot sprain and not a stress fracture.

Listed as day-to-day, Tomlinson is expected to resume practicing in a few days, CU coach Jeff Bzdelik said. The 6-foot-2 Australian did not play Wednesday night in the Buffaloes’ 62-46 home loss to Texas Christian. The injured foot has bothered Tomlinson since it was stepped on during the Nov. 14 season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

“Obviously, this is great news,” Bzdelik said through a CU news release. “Hopefully, we can get Nate back to 100 percent.”

Bohn backs Bzdelik.

Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said he considered Bzdelik’s emotional comments after the loss to TCU to be a reflection of the coach’s “competitive spirit” rather than anything negative or disheartening.

Bzdelik said: “To be honest, if I was Mike Bohn, I would be searching for a new basketball coach because this was unacceptable.”

After being informed of Bzdelik’s comments, Bohn talked with the coach later that night and again Thursday morning.

“I reminded Jeff that his stature here, his work ethic, his vision for our program, it is consistent with ours,” Bohn said. “I really salute his passion and his impatience for trying to turn things around on the scoreboard. We all recognize that’s going to take time.”
