Slow start, strong finish:
Sierra scored only one point in the first quarter of its boys basketball game Tuesday night against Fountain-Fort Carson in Class 4A, its season opener, yet went on to a 44-39 victory despite 15 points and 14 rebounds by the Trojans’ Martin Thomas.
Good to be Green:
Brett Green is for real. He poured in 36 points Friday for 3A Peyton in an 85-83 overtime loss to 4A Golden. Green, a senior, had three 3-pointers among 13 field goals and was 7-of-7 at the free-throw line.
Save me:
Steamboat Springs beat Aspen 3-2 in ice hockey Friday, and the Sailors can thank goalie Matt Dawes, who made a whopping 51 saves.
For free:
Don’t foul Regis’ T’Keyah Shealy. She made 18-of-24 free throws Wednesday in a season-opening 62-51 victory over Mullen.
