We used this sweet simple dough to create our trees and snowmen. Adapted from Everyday Food magazine, also available at . This recipe makes about 18-20 trees or snowmen.

Ingredients

1       cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

3/4    cup sugar

1/2    teaspoon salt

2       large egg yolks

1       teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 1/4   cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)

Directions

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and salt until light and fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, scraping the bowl after each addition. Add vanilla. With mixer on low, add flour; mix just until combined. Wrap in plastic; chill until firm, about 1 hour. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months.

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350. If making cutout cookies, roll out dough to about 1/4-inch thick.

Cut cookies and bake on a parchment-lined cookie sheet for 13-15 minutes.
