Vail is celebrating the season — that would be ski season — with a dizzying array of activities during this week’s annual Snow Daze festival.

Kicking it all off from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday is the SOS Outreach- sponsored Snow Jam Open at Golden Peak. Skiers and snowboarders can compete for a $3,000 cash purse, while DJs, fire dancers and raffle prizes stir up the sideshow mix.

A three-night concert lineup beginning Thursday features Big Head Todd and the Monsters at Dobson Arena. Leftover Salmon plays Friday and the Fray on Saturday.

Not to be missed Saturday is the Dummy Gelunde World Championship, where clever artisans build elaborate mannequin-manned vessels on skis, then launch them to near certain doom off the big-money booter ($5,000 to the winner) at the base of Golden Peak.

Multi-day festival-goers can save up to 55 percent on lodging at participating properties during Snow Daze.

Info and updates: or 800-825-9689 for lodging.
