NEW YORK — Tim Tebow will go for two against a tandem of talented quarterbacks from the Big 12 when the Heisman Trophy is handed out Saturday night.

Sam Bradford of Oklahoma and Colt McCoy of Texas joined Tebow as Heisman finalists announced Wednesday.

Tebow, the first sophomore to win the Heisman last year, is trying to become the second player to win it twice. Archie Griffin won the Heisman as a junior in 1974 for Ohio State and again in 1975.

• Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen will be introduced today as Mississippi State’s replacement for coach Sylvester Croom, who went 21-38 in five seasons.

• Buffalo coach Turner Gill is a candidate for coaching vacancies at Syracuse and Auburn.

• Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo won the Rotary Lombardi Award, the first Longhorn to take home the trophy given to the nation’s top lineman or linebacker since offensive tackle Tony Degrate in 1984.

• Central Florida running back Brandon Davis, who collapsed during training and was hospitalized with kidney failure, is “fully recovered,” his family said.

Daly smashes camera in outburst

SYDNEY, Australia — John Daly smashed a spectator’s camera into a tree while shooting a 6-over- par 78 in the first round of the Australian Open today, making it likely he will miss the cut for the third consecutive week Down Under.

After pushing his tee shot wide on the ninth hole — his last — Daly walked into a clump of trees, where spectator Brad Clegg tried to take a picture at close range.

Daly snatched the camera and smashed it against the nearest tree, telling the man: “You want it back, I’ll buy you a new one.”

Asked if he would seek compensation, Clegg said: “I don’t think I’ll be chasing him for the money. He’s a big bloke!”

Corey Pavin is expected to be introduced today as Paul Azinger‘s successor as the U.S. Ryder Cup captain.
