Getting your player ready...

Next stop, New York City.

While the three Heisman Trophy finalists await word on who’s the top, top banana, they picked up a little hardware Thursday night to get them ready.

A layover on the way to Saturday’s Heisman announcement, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy of Texas and Florida’s Tim Tebow gathered with college football’s best Thursday at Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for the awarding of other honors.

Tebow and McCoy won similar awards for their efforts: Tebow got the Maxwell Award as the all-around player of the year, and McCoy was the Walter Camp outstanding player of the year. Meanwhile, Bradford was the quarterback of the year (Davey O’Brien Award).

Tebow said everyone sharing the top awards here “just shows the diversity, the balance in college football today. I think it’s a great thing.”

But it is McCoy who will have to watch on Jan. 8 as Bradford and Tebow square off for the most prized trophy of the season: the crystal football.
