A 37-year-old woman died in east Greeley after being struck by a train on Thursday night.
Greeley police responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a train the 300 block of 8th Avenue at about 8 p.m. Thursday,
The Union Pacific train was going southbound when the conductor saw a person crouching down on the tracks, according to the release. The conductor immediately sounded the train’s horn and used its emergency brakes.
The train, carrying about 26 million pounds of freight, could not stop before hitting the woman because of how close she was to the moving train, according to the release. Emergency crews responded, but the woman had already died when they arrived.
Her identity will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office following notification of next of kin.
