Getting your player ready...

Say it ain’t so, Snowless Joe.

Avalanche captain Joe Sakic mangling three fingers while trying to tweak his snowblower was just the latest in a long line of freak injuries involving Denver athletes. And most have involved the Broncos.

Or maybe you don’t remember the adventures of Brian Griese.

Let’s see now, there was the time he sprained his ankle when he tripped over his dog while walking down steps at his home. No word on whether he was chewing gum at the time.

And who could forget Drivewaygate? Griese suffered a black eye and chipped tooth when he tripped while walking down the driveway after a party at Terrell Davis’ house. At least that was his story and he’s sticking to it.

Griese’s successor, Jake Plummer, had his issues, too. He once injured his back getting off the couch. And he jacked up a toe while cracking it with his fingers.

Then there’s Brandon Marshall’s infamous tumble into a home-entertainment system after slipping on a McDonald’s wrapper. Or so the story goes.

I don’t know if I believe all these wild and crazy accounts, but I know this much: It’s dangerous out there if you’re an athlete in Denver. As the headline in The Post says, “Must be the elevation”.
