I’m not a fan of either Texas or Oklahoma but do tend to root for Texas to win whenever the two teams play each other. In any case, Oklahoma does deserve to be No. 2 in the BCS standings by a hair over Texas.
Most folks have been saying that Texas should be No. 2 because of its head-to-head win over OU. It’s important to realize whenever a three-way tie exists between teams in a conference, the head-to-head wins are already considered. Since Texas beat OU, and OU beat Tech, and Tech beat Texas, each team lost to each other in a triangle. Therefore, head-to-head cancels out each other. Thus, you have to go to the next tiebreaker, which is the BCS.
The voters in the Harris and USA Today polls favored Texas. However, four of the six computers favored Oklahoma.
The reason the computers favored Oklahoma: OU played five teams ranked in the top 25 and went 4-1 in those games. Texas played four teams in the top 25 and went 3-1.
The fact that Cincinnati had a great season also helped OU (OU played and beat them). Thus, it was 1) strength of schedule, and 2) record against the top 25 that lifted Oklahoma.
