Denver police today said they have developed a description of the hit-and-run vehicle that killed Kathy Hill Young.

Hill Young, the executive director of the Lowry Family Center, had just left a charity event with friends Dec. 5 when she was killed at approximately 11:35 p.m. as she crossed the 3900 block of York Street.

Sonny Jackson, Denver Police Department spokesman, said the vehicle is an older model, Chevrolet conversion van, two-toned in color with front end damage from the impact.

Jackson said that police now have additional details about the van.

It had a ladder on the rear of the passenger side; a stainless steel “continental kit” tire cover on the rear of the driver’s side; tailpipes, metal mirrors; license plates in the center in both the back and front; wide trim around the glass of the slide window; and a roof rack with possibly three pieces of metal.

After hitting Hill Young, the vehicle ran off the west side of the street and struck a security gate at 3975 York St. The vehicle turned around in the gated area and left the scene eastbound on East 40th Avenue from York Street.
