A Park County Sheriff’s patrol car on an emergency run was hit at U.S. 285 and Park County Road 72 this morning resulting in a deputy sheriff and the driver and passenger in the other vehicle being hospitalized.
Monte Gore, undersheriff for Park County, said deputy Nate Carrigan was traveling north on U.S. 285 on his way to a medical emergency in Pine Junction when a 1966 Ford F-11 pulled in front of the patrol car, which had its lights and siren activated.
Gore said Carrigan, who was on U.S. 285, was unable to avoid the collision with the Ford F-11 driven by Robert H. Gonzales, 35, of Bailey.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Hall said Carrigan, Gonzales and a juvenile passenger in the Gonzales vehicle were taken to Swedish Medical Center.
Hall said Gonzales was westbound on the county road about 6:39 a.m. and attempting to cross U.S. 285 when the accident happened.
Hall said the right front of Carrigan’s vehicle collided with the left front of the Gonzales vehicle.
The patrol car came to rest about 100 yards from the point of impact.
Gonzales’ vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest facing south on U.S. 285, in the southbound turn lane.
Hall added that no alcohol or drugs were factor in the crash. Hall said the investigation by the State Patrol is ongoing.
