DENVER—The Colorado Foreclosure Hot Line says the number of callers seeking help to keep their homes has increased by an average of 28 percent per month over the past year.
The hot line said Tuesday it has received more than 52,000 calls since it opened it October 2006, but some were people who called more than once.
The hot line says about 10,300 callers met face-to-face with a housing counselor, and of those, more than 8,000 avoided foreclosure.
It says the 28 percent monthly rate of increase in calls was between November 2007 and last month.
The hot line was started by the Colorado Division of Housing and gets funding from the state, the Colorado Association of Realtors and others. It is staffed by volunteers.
