COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Steven Pope has been named president and publisher of The Gazette in Colorado Springs effective Jan. 5.
Pope succeeds Scott McKibben, who accepted a position with Tribune Co. in August.
Since 2005, Pope has been general manager for the Colorado Mountain News Media division of Reno, Nev.-based Swift Communications Inc. He oversaw six daily newspapers, 11 weekly newspapers, a magazine group and several custom publishing products.
He has also served as publisher of Swift’s Vail Daily Group, and he worked for Denver-based ap Inc. as vice president of circulation at The Denver Post, vice president of circulation and production at the Houston Post and corporate vice president of circulation.
Pope is a member of the Colorado Press Association board of directors.
The Gazette is owned by Irvine, Calif.-based Freedom Communications Inc., a privately held company that owns 33 daily newspapers, including The Orange County Register, and five broadcast stations.
