A Denver County judge has allowed Willie Clark’s defense team to photograph the jail cell where authorities say they found a plastic spoon fashioned into a knife.

Clark, 25, is charged with possessing dangerous contraband in the Denver County Jail.

He is more seriously charged in the December 2006 homicide of Kalonniann Clark, a witness in an attempted murder case, and the New Year’s Day killing of Denver Broncos player Darrent Williams.

Randy Canney, one of Willie Clark’s defense lawyers, filed a motion in court to photograph the cell where deputies say they found the “shank” or orange plastic spoon sharpened into a weapon on Dec. 8. They may also photograph the cell he was moved to after the incident.

Canney declined to comment on the case Monday.

Judge Robert B. Crew also granted prosecutor Tim Twining’s request to keep the photographs under a protective order so they cannot be disseminated publicly.

Clark had just been moved from a federal lockup to the Denver County Jail to face the two homicide charges when authorities say they found the weapon.

In an interview with 9News last week, Clark denied the spoon belonged to him.

During his brief court appearance on Monday, Clark appeared unusually agitated about the felony contraband case.

Clark faces life in prison if he is convicted of the homicides.
