DENVER—Legislative leaders have formed a committee to look into a complaint that a lobbyist tried to influence the election for House minority leader.

Legislators have said only that the election was postponed because of concerns that “outside influences” would affect the race between Republican Reps. David Balmer of Centennial and Frank McNulty of Highlands Ranch.

The Rocky Mountain News reported Friday that details of the complaint are expected to be released later in the day.

House Minority Leader Mike May had announced his resignation last week, citing demands of his business operating hotels in Colorado and Utah.

But withdrew his resignation on Tuesday, saying someone was trying to sway the election to pick his successor.

“With the possibility that outside influences may have attempted to interfere with the leadership election, and the reality of a delayed election, I do not feel that now would be an appropriate time to leave,” May said.

He refused to elaborate, saying House rules prohibited him from doing so.
