BOULDER, Colo.—A Longmont man who admitted killing his wife’s cat to get even with her will serve 45 days in a work-release program and two years on probation.

Paul Vickers was sentenced Monday in Boulder County District Court after pleading guilty in October to aggravated cruelty to animals. The Camera newspaper also reported Vickers admitted one felony count of attempt to possess marijuana.

Longmont police said the 50-year-old Vickers shot the cat with a .22-caliber rifle in March and told relatives he did it to get even with his wife.

Vickers’ defense attorney told the judge Monday that his client was stressed out because he was taking care of his ill wife.
